OGs win 20/20 cricket tournament!

19 Jun 2008

The OGs emerged as the winning cricket team after taking on a school XI and a Nocturnes side on Sunday 15th June. The round robin tournament of three matches saw the school XI and the OGs comfortably winning their matches.

The deciding match took place between the school XI and the OGs with the OGs batting first and posting 194, with Nick Hanington (Tallis, 2005) and Felix Flower (Farfield, 2006) both retiring with 50s. The school put up a hard fight but fell short scoring 168, with Tom Ingram and Andrew Clark both skilfully scoring 50.

The Alan Ponder 20/20 trophy was awarded to winning captain Nick Hanington by Alan Ponder after a hugely successful day. The cricketers scored over 1000 runs, surely a record for the school 1st XI pitch!

This event honoured long serving teacher and Cricket Master Alan Ponder who recently retired after nearly 25 years overseeing the school cricket teams. We hope to continue the match on an annual basis, potentially with two OG sides. Please contact the Master in Charge of Cricket, Peter Watson, at pwatson@greshams.com if you would like to be involved.
