OGs visit the Red Arrows

OGs visit the Red Arrows

11 Sep 2008

OGs climb to great heights, and Andy Robins (Farfield, 1988) is a prime example. As part of a successful career in the RAF, Andy is currently Red 10, the public front of the Red Arrows. Whenever you attend an air show where the Arrows are displaying, the commentary voice that you hear will be Andy's.

Our friend Red 10 kindly hosted an OG visit to the Red Arrows base at Scampton, just north of Lincoln, on 3rd September. The weather had been truly appalling in the run up to the visit, but the group arrived in breezy sunshine on the appointed day. Everybody enjoyed an insight into the nitty gritty behind the gloss by sitting in on pre and post practice briefings while enjoying the most astounding display.

Life in the Arrows is certainly no picnic in the park, with a grueling display season and full-on training in the off season. All those selected are very experienced RAF pilots with time in active service on the front line behind them, and after their 3-year term of office they go back into the RAF ranks.

Many thanks to Andy and to his Dad Ian  (Farfield, 1957) for such a wonderful day.
